Little Thoughts.

Intervention

Was aimlessly looking through a two year old magazine of 'Frieze' when I came across Jiri Kovanda, a Czech artist who explores the limits and Joys of Freedom. His idea's are often small scale and tend to be more stories of the event than actual evidence. His intervention work of the 1970s took place during the invasion of Czechoslovakia and he wanted his work to be full of love and happiness to compensate. His work made me smile. ' Kissing Through Glass' was a fitting piece of work to be reading about on Valentines Day.

He waited in the Tate Modern behind a glass window. He held up a note to passers-by asking them to kiss him. An action which "in spite of the physical barrier, was accompanied by embarrassment, hesitation, caution and occasionally tenderness". It reminded me of the romance and quirkyness of films like Amelie and Paris Je t'aime. This is something I want to explore further...
